Night Residential Counselor
'It's a dangerous business going out of your door. You step into the Road, and if you don't keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to.' - JRR Tolkien, Lord of the Rings
Where did you grow up? San Jose, CA
Tell us about your family. I am married, have four children and seven grandchildren. My eldest son is married and works as an independent corpsman for the Coast Guard in Alaska. My eldest daughter is married and works as a Bible teacher with Youth With a Mission. Our seconds son is a Junior in High School and works at a local church. My last daughter is also a Junior as well as a singer/songwriter, who performs throughout the Northwest.
Share something about yourself that might surprise people. I my entire family (father, mother and brothers) have all been hit by lightening at different times. At a different time I watched four teenagers hit by lightening while on Half Dome in Yosemite (I was 30 feet from them when it happened). I am not someone you want to be near in an electrical storm.
Briefly describe your work experience. I spent three years in the Army in Military Intelligence. I have been a missionary working on five continents over a twenty year period and I was a Deputy Sheriff (California and Washington) for fourteen years. I currently work at a local homeless shelter, in addition to my work at the Summit.
If you could spend a week anywhere in the world, where would it be?I would spend it in Israel. I love history and have traveled to Italy, Greece and North Africa. Israel would be the next place to visit to see the ancient sights.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? Bike riding and hiking. I also read a tremendous amount.
What draws you most to this type of work? I like working with young people. I think that my life experience gives me a platform to be able to speak into the lives of the guys I work with.
