“Peace begins with a smile.” - Mother Teresa
Where did you grow up? I grew up and lived in Bonney Lake, WA before spending 6 years in Kalispell, MT and then another 6 years in New Orleans, LA.
Tell us about your family. I have been married to Greg for 25 years and we have two boys, Ian and Isaac. Greg and I are happy to be back in the Flathead Valley to continue our journey without kids since they are grown and making their own way in the world
Share something about yourself that might surprise people. My husband and I were on a committee called Krewe de Pink, in New Orleans that raises money for breast cancer research. We worked with a bunch of wonderful and dedicated people in this group who are going to continue the goals of Krewe de Pink without us. We hope to get people in the Flathead involved in this work as well!
Briefly describe your work experience. I began my career teaching PE and Math at a Catholic School in Tacoma, WA and after 4 years decided I wanted to get a public school experience, so I went to work for the Enumclaw School District for 3 more years. At this time our family decided to move to Whitefish, MT and I began working at Summit Prep School, teaching PE, Health, and various math courses. We then relocated to New Orleans, LA and I taught PE to young children at Audubon Charter School. Now that our children are grown and on their own, we decided to return to Montana so I am now working back at Summit Prep and loving it!
If you could spend a week anywhere in the world, where would it be?At this point in life, I would spend it with my family, especially my parents in Bonney Lake, WA. I appreciate all that they have done for me and continue to do for me and want to be present for them as much as possible.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? Anything outside! I love camping, hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, swimming, playing catch, running, exploring, road trips, train trips, plane trips……..I could go on and on!
What draws you most to this type of work? I find joy in watching the kids succeed in understanding concepts and doing their best, especially when they have had past difficulties or preconceived ideas of how difficult something may be prior to them actually learning and practicing. This holds true in Math and PE.
